Resume

Welcome to my resume. Below I have listed my experience in both animation and illustration.

Comics: Professional 2005-2012
Since 2005 I have been drawing a weekly full-colour comic strip for Picture Magazine called Tales From the Pub.  My strip Lesson Master is being published bi-monthly in a spin-off magazine. I have also had strips in the first two editions of Australian Mad this year.

Comics: Self-Published 1993-2012
For fifteen years I’ve been publishing my own comic books and have published twenty eight so far which I sell in most major cities in Australia and New Zealand. Upon release my first trade paperback outsold all other trade paperbacks in its first month at Impact Comics in Canberra.

Character animation 2000-2008
I worked for eight years as a character animator for 2K Australia (formerly Irrational Games). This involved:

2011

A strip of mine appeared in March edition of Australian MAD. I was then offered a 2 page spread in April edition.

I wrote and co-illustrated the world’s first interactive picklet – an iphone/ipad pop-up book simulator. The 3 Baddest Bandits of the Wild, Wild West is to be released March 2012.

For the Royal Australian Mint, I coloured a selectively hyper-metallic version of the 50 cent piece which was released as part of the Six Coin Uncirculated Year Set for 2012.

I designed the 5 coins for the Capital Bridges series, produced by the Royal Australian Mint.

I provided the illustrations for Dogs allowed to be Dogs : a Plain English Approach for the Holistic Care of Your Dog by Peter Willmott.

I featured in the group art exhibitions:

  • Urban Art Throw Up

I was selected by the National Gallery of Victoria as one of eight comic artists to have a studio residency in a show called Inherent Vice. This show was a combination of residency and exhibition and ran for one month.

I completed the 300th Tales from the Pub episode.

I produced a 16 page comic to appear in a fund-raising comic for tsunami victims in Japan called Aftershock. The comic Walking to Japan was also published by Milk Shadow Books, and sold 200 copies in 4 months.

I was 3D photography consultant, and I compiled the images for The Kooky 3D Kids Baking Book by Hardie-Grant.

My comic Lesson Master was released as a third printing through Milk Shadow Books.

I established Australias first open comic studio in Brunswick, Squishface Studio.

2010
I animated a promotional music clip for the game Save the Kahoots for the Playstation Network.

I appeared in two exhibitions.

  • My first solo show From Inside a Comic Mind ran for two months at Nine-on-Seven artspace, featuring comic dioramas. One diorama featured as the cover design for Los Capitanes’ album Rest for the Wicked.
  • My second art show Open the Stereo Ark ran for two weeks at Brunswick Street Gallery.  The exhibition featured a hand made 3d viewer with slides of my 3D artwork

I was consultant for the stereo photography in the book The Kooky 3D Kids Cookbook published by Hardie Grant books.

Designed the CD cover for the Vee Bees album Roots ‘n’ Blues.

I have featured in the group comic art exhibitions:

2009
My strip Handball Heaven was one of 70 strips chosen from 2,765 submissions to appear in the 2009 Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival.

I featured in several Melbourne comic art exhibitions:

  • Comic Book Funny
  • The Paper Life Boat: How art can save your life
  • Stranded
  • the Tootleg Boy Anthology launch

Various comic strips of mine were exhibited on the Top Shelf website.

2008
I drew the promotional illustration for Canberra Living Artists Week, as well as provided illustrations for the program.

I illustrated a children’s book for Aussie Schoolbooks called Soggy Sadie.

I produced a regular animation for the ABC called Fatal Rage of Conflict. I provided all the animation which was done in pixel style. Eight two minute episodes were completed.

I featured in two comic art exhibitions:

  • Black and White at the This is Not Art festival in Newcastle.
  • Comic Book Funny at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

2007
I designed a coin series for the Royal Australian Mint. This involved a number of designs as well as artwork for packaging and promotion. The coin series has spawned a range of soft toys, phone holders and badges based on my designs.

I illustrated a children’s book for UPC publishing entitled The Toilet Paper Ripoff.

2006
I won a facial expressions illustration competition and my image was published in the book Facial Expressions Babies to Teens.

2005
I featured in two comic art exhibitions

  • The Ink runs deep down down underground
  • Comic Art: A group exhibition

2004-2005
I contributed a regular cartoon to the monthly music magazine BMA.

2003
I had some comics published in Mania, and illustrated the Mania 2003 Diary.

1998
My comic art featured in the 14th International Exhibition of Drawings 14th International Exhibition of Drawings at the Museum of Modern Art, Croatia.
